HISTORY

The organ of Wesley United Methodist Church was built by Edwin Alan Ohl of Pottsville, PA in 1989. As orginally constructed, it was modeled after the classic organs of Northern Europe of 1650-1750, considered the "Golden Age of Organ building." While the character of classic instruments was preserved, full use had been made of modern techniques and materials. The instrument was composed of three major divisions played from the two (2) manual drawknob console. The playing action was tracker (mechanical) with wind chests of the "slider" type. The stop action was electrical allowing the advantage of contemporary microelectronics to provide a combination action with extreme flexibility. The Brustwerk was enclosed to provide greater flexibility in the intensity of the sound. The pipework resides in beautiful oak casework designed to enhance the sound of the instrument while blending with the existing sanctuary structure.

The present instrument received 27 digital stops, created by the Allen Organ Comapany, of Macungie PA, in 2002. At that time the 2 manual console and tracker action were replaced with a 3 manual console constructed by Allen Organ and electric action. All slider chests and pipe work were retained with the exception of the 16' Pedal Posauna. Also, the Brustwerk was unenclosed to create the present Postiv division. The digital additions were voiced by Burton K. Tidwell.
